Ponniyin Selvan 2 India Release Date
The Cholas are back, after the massive success of PS1 which became the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2022.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 will release worldwide on 28 April 2023. It will be available in all 5 major languages of India including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
The first part titled PS1 released in India on 30 September 2022 and was a big hit in Tamil Nadu. However, it struggled to gain popularity. The story was complex and most new fans were hoping for a Baahubali or RRR type of action.
But that’s where you need to know more about it to really appreciate it. It is not technically an action flick, but a full-on drama about love, politics, and conspiracy. I made a video about the story and themes of Ponniyin Selvan, check it out here:
Directed by Main Ratnman and Music by AR Rahnam, this will definitely be a visual beauty with soothing music. This collaboration has given some of the most memorable moments of Indian Cinema.
Should You Watch Ponniyin Selvan in IMAX?
Yes, Ponniyin Selvan 2 will release in IMAX. The IMAX remastering will upgrade the audio and video quality of the film, resulting in a better theatrical experience overall. Note that there will be no expanded ratio as with many Hollywood films.
But there will be no 3D screening for PS2. Even if you go for 4DX format, you will not get 3D glasses.

Who is in the Cast?
PS2 has a big ensemble cast from Kollywood and Bollywood. Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are in the lead roles and are joined by Karthi, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha Krishnan. The Supporting cast includes Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, and Prakash Raj.

When will PS2 drop on OTT?
The official OTT platform for Ponniyin Selvan 2 is Amazon Prime Video. They got the rights to both films, including PS1. It is expected that it will drop on streaming in June or July. PS1 is also on Prime Video for all languages.
Note thatit might have a late premiere digitally for the Hindi Language, which they did with the last part.
About The Movie
Ponniyin Selvan is one of the biggest stories in Tamil Literature; a historic fiction based on the Chola Dynasty. Writer Kalki published 5 books on the full story in 1955. From then, it continued to gain more and more popularity.
But even after 65 years, it never got adapted into live-action. Even MGR and Kamal Hassan tried to bring it to the big screen, but ultimately, Main Ratnam got to direct it on a whooping budget of ₹500 Crores. They also hosted massive events for Trailer and Music launches.
