Citadel series release in India
Amazon is building an international web series universe, which will ultimately start with this first outing.
The Citadel series will release on Amazon Prime Video on 28 April 2023. The first 2 episodes will premiere on this date, with new episodes released every Friday. Usually, they upload new episodes at 12:00 GMT, which will be around 5:30 AM in India.
Prime Video India also organized a screening for this new show in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. I got a chance to watch it early and here is my small review:
There will be six episodes in the first season. It is also reported to be renewed for a season 2 soon.
By the way, the last project of Priyanka was The Matrix 4 which came out in 20211.
Will it release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu?
Priyanka Chopra’s Citadel series will be available in 6 languages on Prime Video: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
The inclusion of an Indian actress in this Hollywood show is giving good hopes for this streaming giant to rise big in the country.
Who is Priyanka Chopra playing in Citadel?
Priyanka Chopra is playing the character of Naida Sinh in Citadel. She is one of the most intelligent agents of this spy agency and becomes a Top-Tier agent in a short time. She is also the daughter of the former director of Citadel.
On the other hand, Richard Madden plays Mason Kane, who is another top spy in this universe. However, his mission with Nadia fails and their memories got wiped out. However, they ultimately reunite to save the world from a big threat and also find out their history together.
Is there an Indian version as well?
The idea came from Amazon head Jen Salke to develop a big global spy universe on their platform, with spin-off shows set in different countries.
One such spin-off of Citadel will be set in India. It will star Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead roles. This series will be directed by The Family Man’s director Krishna D.K. and Raj Nidimoru. It is already in production and possibly release in late 2024.
Both of the actors and directors attended the London premiere as well.
Talking about this universe, Russo Brothers told Deadline about how excited they are about it: “We are thrilled to see yet another production within the Citadel universe commencing, this time in India. We, and all of AGBO, consider it an honor to be collaborating with filmmakers as inspiring as DK and Raj, who bring a unique vision, style, and tone to our collection of global series.”
There is also an Italian spin-off shot with Matilda De Angelis.
About the Series
Citadel is produced by the directors behind Avengers Endgame, Russo Brothers, and their production company AGBO. They are making it in Partnership with Amazon Studios and it is said to be a very expensive web series of all time because of extensive reshoots.
David Weil is overlooking the show who worked on shows like The Twilight Zone and Solos before. Also, Priyanka and Richard will be joined by Stanley Tucci, Lesley Manville, Ashleigh Cummings, and Caoilinn Springall.
Finally, here is the official synopsis of it (via agbo.com): “Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows. With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. One night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick, who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason seeks out his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them around the world in an effort to stop Manticore, all while contending with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous-yet-undying love.”
