The Woman King release date in India
This is a real-life story of some of the best women fighters in history, known as Dahomey Amazons.
The movie was already out in many countries in the month of September and October 2022. It was also scheduled to premiere on 05 October and then changed to 14 October. But suddenly the studio changed it completely.
The Woman King is now releasing in India on 03 February 2023. Tickets are available in some major cities as well.
This will be very late and most fans who want to watch it have now lost hope. However, if it did get nominated for the Oscars, some people will definitely wait for a few months for the big screen experience.
Is it in Hindi, Tamil, or Telugu?
The Woman King is available in English, Hindi, and Tamil in India. This is according to the final theatrical release we got from the booking websites like PVR and BookMyShow.
The trailers are already dubbed in these languages quite earlier in 2022. Here is the Official Hindi Trailer:
Great to see that it is getting dubbed in some local languages. Sony Pictures is really a good company in this scenario. Hope when it moves to stream, we will get Tamil and Malayalam in the future.
OTT streaming update
Now that Indians can’t experience it in theatres, the question comes to digital release. The official OTT platform is still not confirmed but according to the last deal between Sony Pictures and Netflix, it is most likely to drop on their service.
The streaming release date is yet to be announced. Most likely it will stream in 2023, around the time of the Academy Awards.
But please also note that the last Sony movie Bullet Train is on Amazon Prime Video in India for rent.
About the Movie
The Woman King is a historical epic about the female warriors of West Africa during the 18 and 19th centuries. They were called Amazons by the Europeans for their fierce fighting style.
Gina Prince-Bythewood directed the film in November 2021, which was first shown at the Toronto International film festival. It has got positive reactions from both critics & fans for the amazing acting and action.
The film stars Viola Davis in the lead role, along with Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, John Boyega, Thuso Mbedu, Masali Baduza, Jimmy Odukoya, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin.
Fun Fact: Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia in Marvel Movies) was offered the role of the main character but it changed to Viola Davis. Viola plays Amanda Waller in DC’s Suicide Squad movies.
