Dune: Part Two India Release Date (OTT, Rating, Box-Office?)

Last updated on 25 March 2024.

Dune 1 was a cinematic masterpiece and now we are waiting for the sequel. So, let’s come to the point and find out when Dune Part Two is releasing in India with all the latest updates!

Dune Part Two Release Date in India

With a stellar star cast, amazing visuals, and a roaring score by Hans Zimmer, this is going to be a massive event.

Dune Part Two will be released in India on 1 March 2024. However, IMAX shows are opening one day early on 29 February. The film will be available in English and Hindi.

If you don’t know much about this universe, here is an explainer video:

The film is getting amazing reviews, with everyone loving its cinematography and storytelling. Many called it way more magnificent than the first one. So, it is expected to perform very well worldwide.

The IMAX version is the most hyped among fans because Dune 2 is completely shot in the IMAX aspect ratio. That’s why we see that they are screening the film 24 hours before in many IMAX theatres in India.

Here is the official update:

So, that confusing to see that Warner Bros India is not dubbing the film in other local languages to get a wider reach in the country.

Dune 2 is not getting released in Tamil and Telugu for the theatres. That happened with Dune 1 also. Fans from southern states seemed unhappy and complained about it. The only option for them is to wait until it comes online

When & Where it will be Streaming?

While Dune 1 was dropped simultaneously on streaming and theatres at the same time, that is not going to happen with this one. You have to wait longer to watch it at home.

It will be on HBO MAX in the USA for sure with a good 3-4 months theatrical gap at least. But Indians don’t have MAX, so what to do?

Dune 2 will be streaming in India on JioCinema. Warner Bros had a partnership with Jio for their upcoming content. The digital premiere date is yet to be announced.

But note that the last film is on Netflix India, so that might happen with this one as well.

Box-Office Report in India

Many are calling it the best cinematic achievement after James Cameron’s Avatar. So, the sequel is expected to have a bigger audience with this positive word of mouth.

Dune Part Two made ₹28 crores at the India box office. The worldwide collection stands at $574 Million.

The opening weekend numbers are as follows:

  • Thursday (only IMAX): ₹0.95 Crores
  • Friday: ₹2.95 Crores
  • Saturday: ₹3.9 Crores
  • Sunday: ₹3.7 Crores

Most of the collection came from Tier-1 cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

While the numbers are not as great as Nolan’s last film (check out how Oppenheimer crossed ₹100 crores in India), we can still call it decent.

We must remember that Dune 1 made less than ₹5 crores in India. This is not a simple story and nor a big popular name is in it.

Age-Rating of Dune 2

According to filmratings.com, Dune Part Two is rated PG-13 for “sequences of strong violence, some suggestive material and brief strong language.” The age rating in India is UA and 12A in England.

About The Movie

Dune films are based on the Sci-Fi novels written by Frank Herbert. These two films were just based on the first book, with many now expecting that there will be a third instalment, completing the trilogy. But that’s a topic for another day!

The sequel is also directed by Denis Villeneuve, who helmed the previous one, which even got 10 Oscar Nominations. After the success of Part 1, Part 2 was instantly green-lit.

This time, he has added Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and Christopher Walken. They are now part of the ensemble cast list including Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, and Dave Bautista.

Finally, here is the official synopsis for you to read (via warnerbros.com): “Dune Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavours to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
