Aquaman 2 Release Date, OTT, Box-Office Update in India

The King of Atlantis will now end the existing DC universe this Christmas! But there are some changes for the Aquaman 2 release in India.

Aquaman 2 Release Date in India Update

Aquaman 2 is now the last superhero film to come out in 2023, along with being the final film of the DC Extended Universe that started with Man of Steel 10 years ago.

The official release date of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom in India is 21 December 2023. However, the dubbed version in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages was delayed to 22 December 2023.

Fans were happy to see that there is a one-day early release, on Thursday for this DC film. They most likely did it to get some shows before both Dunki and Salaar would completely get all the screens. However, Dunki has now moved to 21 December as well.

However, you will only be able to watch the original English version on the first day. According to some rumors, the Film Certification Board of India has still not checked the film in local languages. So, the studio had to shift those versions one day later.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom stars Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson in main roles, along with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II returning now as the main villain. James Wan is coming back in the director chair also.

Still, the good news for fans will be that Aquaman 2 will be available in 3D format. Along with that, it is also filmed with IMAX-certified cameras. We advise that if you want the watch in IMAX, try to do that on the first day. After that, Salaar might take those screens.

This will also affect its ticket sales in the country.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom Box-Office Report

The first movie was huge a hit when it premiered in 2018. Aquaman was able to cross $1 billion and became the highest-grossing DC movie ever, even beating The Dark Knight. It earned ₹54 crores in India also.

However, the hype is not the same for the sequel. Even the last 4 installments in the DC universe, including The Flash and Black Adam flopped.

Aquaman 2 has collected ₹25 Crores at the box office in India. Around 70% of its revenue came from the English version only. The worldwide collection stands at $434 Million.

Despite little to no hype and competition from Dunki and Salaar in the country, it still managed to do well for a DC film. The Christmas release might have helped a bit as well.

When and where will Aquaman 2 stream in India?

No doubt that MAX (formerly HBO MAX) will be the home of its digital platform in the USA. As we know, DC is owned by Warner Bros and all their content is available there. But this is not the same everywhere.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will be streaming on Jio Cinema in India from 21 May 2024. You can watch it in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali and Marathi languages.

Warner Bros has partnered with Jio for their content and they have moved all their movies/shows from Hotstar to Jio Cinema.

The Flash also streamed in India on this new streaming service.

About The Movie

Momoa already planned for a new story and pitched it to Warner Bros after the first part. Then, with the success at the box office, it became confirmed. The shooting was done by 2021, but because of delays in VFX completion, the release date is from December 2022 to 2023.

The runtime of 2 hours and 4 minutes promises fast-paced action adventures and great underwater visuals like the last time. Hope it is as good as the first one or maybe better to give a good farewell to the cast and crew of Aquaman.
