Get ready, Zombie fans in India, the universally acclaimed 28 Days Later universe is expanding with a new movie this summer. Now, it’s 28 Years Later!

Release update for 28 Years Later

I love post-apocalyptic thrillers, and this one deserves more attention than it gets.

The 28 Years Later movie will release in India on 19 June 2025 (Thursday). While the official release date is set for June 20, night shows will be available one day early in many cities.

Sony Pictures India has also decided to dub it in Hindi. Watch the Hindi trailer here:

The cast includes big names like Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes.

Note that CBFC has given it an A certificate in India, so you need to be 18 years or older to experience it in the theatre. If you want a more action-packed A-rated film, go for Ballerina, set in John Wick’s universe.

When will 28 Years Later stream in India?

28 Years Later is officially distributed by Sony Pictures, so somewhere down the line, it will be on SonyLiv. But Sony had made deals with Netflix, and many of their big movies come there first.

28 Years Later will be streaming in India on Netflix. The digital premiere date is yet to be announced.

More about the movie

There were always plans for a third instalment in the 28 Days Later franchise, but it got delayed and more delayed. Even in 2015, they titled it 28 Months Later. But that also didn’t come to fruition.

But the stars eventually aligned in 2023, and in 2024, they officially put 28 Years Later in development.

Danny Boyle will return to his franchise as the director, with a script by Alex Garland. Cillian Murphy was also once reported to be a part of this one, but that got debunked. There will be new characters now, and new stories, that will also set up one more sequel, which has already been shot.

The early reviews are also quite positive, promising the same rawness, combined with graphic violence and emotional texture.

Another cool fact about this flick is that they shot it with iPhones. Yes, iPhone 15 Pro Max.

At last, you can check out the official synopsis of the film here (taken from 28yearslater.movie): “It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

Takeaways

Now you know how and where you can watch the new 28 Years Later movie in India.

I loved the original 28 Days Later film with its indie-horror vibes. The sequel, 28 Weeks Later, not so much. It’s not bad, but it’s louder with a lack of story. But the reviews for the 3rd film have been great, so excited to enjoy it on the big screen.
