After just 7 months, we are getting a sequel to ’28 Years Later’, and the reviews are calling it one of the best movies of this year.
How to Watch 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple in India?
The official release date of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is 16 January 2026 in India. It will be available in English and Hindi.
The OTT premiere is not yet confirmed, as the film will stay in theatres for the first few weeks. But what we know is that The Bone Temple will be streaming on Netflix in India.
Its predecessor, 28 Years Later, is already on Netflix right now.
For cinephiles, this is definitely a perfect “watch-it-in-a-dark-theatre” kind of film. It has opened to positive reviews worldwide, and many are calling it much better than the last one.
Ralph Ineson will return as Dr Ian Kelson, and Jack O’Connell will be in the lead role as Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal, who was introduced at the end of 28 Years Later.
I will be seated for Jack after his magnificent performance in the Sinners (2025) last year.
Will it be released in IMAX format?
No, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is not set for an IMAX release. Even its prequel, 28 Years Later, was not formatted for IMAX.
However, if you want some crazy option to watch it, you can go for 4DX and ScreenX. But there will be no 3D.
Will Cillian Murphy be in 28 Years Later?
Yes, Cillian Murphy is in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
He was the one who started this whole franchise. At the end of his 28 Days Later, his character was saved from the zombies, but was still away from the mainland.
He even attended the premiere:

He didn’t return for the next two parts, but it was already confirmed that he will be back for this one. But the role is just an extended cameo.
Do I need to watch 28 Years Later before?
Yes, you do need to watch 28 Years Later before The Bone Temple.
The Bone Temple is a direct continuation rather than a standalone spin-off.
And I highly recommend it. Characters, their storylines, and the world-building will directly continue from the end of the last part.
There is also a third part in development to complete this trilogy, so you need to understand what is the state of this horrific world and how it is evolving.
Is Danny Boyle directing The Bone Temple?
No, Danny Boyle is not directing The Bone Temple.
For the 2nd part (or the 4th part overall), they brought in Nia DaCosta as the director, who is known for big horror hits like Candyman (2021). She also directed MCU’s The Marvels.
More About The Movie
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is a horror movie set in the same franchise as the highly-acclaimed 28 Days Later.
About two decades after the original, Boyle and writer Alex Garland decided to continue this universe, now with different characters and new storylines.
The first films, 28 Years Later and this one (The Bone Temple), were shot back-to-back and already released.
But they were planning the trilogy. Boyle will helm the final 28 Years Later installment. Whether he brings his iPhone-based shooting style with him remains an important question.
Finally, here is the official synopsis of the film:
“In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson makes a discovery that could change the world as they know it – and Spike’s encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can’t escape. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the only threat to survival – the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.”
Takeaways
Now you know about when and where to watch this 28 Years Later sequel in India.
I really love the original 28 Days Later and how it added something to the horror cinema at its time. While I was also impressed with 28 Years Later, my problem was that the film looked incomplete. There was no definite ending. That’s something I really hate.
Still, the sequel will now focus more on Ralph’s Dr Kelson and Jack’s Jimmy Crystal, who were set up in a particularly intriguing way. I am excited to see how their paths collide. The amazing reviews have convinced me to buy the tickets.
I just hope that there is a solid conclusion at the end of this one, even though another part is already in the making.
