Many DC fans in India are excited about the upcoming Joker sequel, but it looks like there is some bad news for them. Find out all you need to know about Joker Folie a Deux release in the country.
Joker Folie a Deux Dubbing Update in Hindi
It was initially confirmed that Joker 2 would be dubbed in all major Indian languages like most big hollywood films do. But that is not the case this time.
Joker Folie a Deux will only be available in the English language. Warner Bros India has decided to not dub the movie in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
There was no specific reason given for cancelling the dubbing in local languages, although they officially said it before. But my guess is that is because Joker 2 is also part-musical.
The film features many songs, and maybe when Warner Bros India got the copy to dub it, they found out that they would not be able to get a good translation of that many songs. And if they keep the songs in English and just dub the dialogues, then some fans might not like it.

This news was confirmed when they first opened the tickets for the film, about one month before the release date. However, there is some good news also there.
Joker 2 will be released 2 days earlier in India on 2 October 2024 (Wednesday).
The US release date is set for 4 October (Friday), but the studio knows that 2 October is a national holiday because of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. They want to take advantage of the holiday and make it a long weekend for a better box office.
Fans are already hyped for this movie as the first one was such a big hit, with a billion-dollar box-office collection, and Joaquin Phoenix even got an Oscar. You can check all the Oscars won by DC films here.
The IMAX Release will be Delayed e
But there is also a catch here, while the movie is coming on Wednesday, but not if you want to watch it in IMAX.
The IMAX release of Joker Folie a Deux in India is set for 4 October 2024. So, you will have to wait for 2 more days if you are going to experience it on a big IMAX screen.
The film has an expanded 1.90:1 aspect ratio. So, I can say that Joker 2 is definitely made for IMAX.
The delay here is because the IMAX Corporation has not allowed for an early release on their IMAX screens before the films open in the USA.
Warner Bros is also hoping for a big IMAX premiere just like Oppenheimer, so they are not giving to give the IMAX version earlier in other countries.
This is a bummer for fans like me who love to experience comic-book flicks on a bigger and brighter IMAX screen.
By the way, there will be no 3D release for this film as well, just like the last time. Note that you will still have cinema options of 4DX and ScreenX, but those will be without the 3D glasses.
What’s the Age Rating in India?
Another thing to keep in mind is that the Joker 2 has got an A-certificate from CBFC India.
Basically, A film rating in India means that theatres will only allow people over the age of 18 to watch it. For age verification, some movie theatres also ask the audience to show their identity cards before entering the theatre. So, bring your ID with you for this one!
Even in the USA, it has an R-rating because it contains “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity.”
And if you are younger than 18 years, you might have to wait for the OTT release.
About Joker Folie a Deux
The first Joker film (2019) was going to be just a standalone project, but the massive box office and critical success changed the minds. Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Philips decided to do a sequel, but this time with the introduction of Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga.
Joker Folie a Deux (Folie a Deux in French which means “shared madness”) will feature both Joker and Quinn in a musical psychological thriller. There is also some courtroom drama involved.
The film has already screened at Venice Film Festival and just like the first one, it has got mixed reviews from the critics. Some are saying it to be a worthy sequel (not better than the first) with great acting by both lead actors, but some are not happy with the story and ending.
There is no single review to describe it, and you have to make up your mind when you go and see it in the theatre.
Finally, here is the official synopsis of the film (via joker.movie): “Joker: Folie À Deux” finds Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love but also finds the music that’s always been inside him.”
