Deadpool & Wolverine’s Box-Office & OTT Update in India

Last updated on 28 August 2024.

Fans are saying Marvel is Back with Deadpool and Wolverine! Well, the box-office collections everywhere also say so.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Final Box Office in India

MCU’s first R-rated film D&W opened with rave reviews when it was released worldwide on 26 July 2024. The response was great in India as well.

Deadpool & Wolverine has collected ₹134 Crores in India. That has made it the 16th hollywood movie so far to join the 100-crore box-office club in the entry.

Here are the opening weekend numbers:

  • Friday (26 July): ₹21 Crores
  • Saturday (27 July): ₹22.5 Crores
  • Sunday (28 July): ₹21.5 Crores

Just the first 3 days were enough to cross the half-century, and as the momentum continued, I can say that the movie became a Box-Office HIT. Not only that, it had joined the list of the Top 10 highest-grossing hollywood films in India.

One more interesting record is that it is now the 4th highest-grossing Marvel movie in the country also, just behind Avengers Endgame, Avengers Infinity War and Spider-Man No Way Home.

To know more about, I discussed it in my The Fulmino Fan Show:

Most of the tickets are sold in the major circuits like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. But there is a more than average revenue coming from states like Rajasthan and West Bengal also.

The movie became highly anticipated since not only it was the 3rd film in the successful Deadpool Trilogy, but one of the most beloved superheroes: Wolverine was joining it.

The smashing duo of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine made it a buzz of the town, not just among the fans, but also among the normal audience who watches Marvel films to get entertained in the theatres.

While the comedy and action worked for me, the story was not still that good. But people come to the theatre to have fun and this movie delivered it. That is why it performed well not just in India but also worldwide.

Smashing Worldwide Collection Records

The worldwide box-office collection of Deadpool & Wolverine stands at $1.21 Billion, according to BoxOfficeMojo. However, that doesn’t make it the biggest film of the year, as Disney’s Inside Out 2 is way ahead of it with $1.6 Billion.

Still, it had beaten many records. So, without discussing every one of them in detail, it will be better to just list them out straight:

  • #1 Highest-Grossing R-rated movie (beating DC’s Joker).
  • #6 Biggest Opening Weekend Collection in the USA
  • #1 Highest-Grossing Film set in the Fox’s X-Men Universe
  • 11th film in the MCU franchise to cross $1 Billion

One more fascinating fact I found is that the worldwide collection is almost equally split between Domestic and International.

Usually, when a big hollywood movie becomes a juggernaut at the box office, the percentage of International is higher. Maybe the R-rating dropped its International numbers.

Still, some of the major international markets where it earned a lot of money were the UK, China, Mexico, Australia, and France.

Where will Deadpool & Wolverine stream in India?

With all this success, the next question is when will it come to streaming. Now without a doubt, it will be on Disney+, as the film itself is produced by Marvel Studios.

But I don’t think it will be too early when Disney will decide to just drop online. The theatre numbers are not slowing down, and I believe there will be a long theatrical window.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be made available on streaming on Disney+ Hotstar around October in India. As soon as the film gets on Disney+ in the US, it will be on Hotstar on the same date.

The director has confirmed that there will be No Extended Cut for the film.
