Barbie release date in India
After so many animated films, this is the first live-action adaption for this beloved doll.
The official release date of the Barbie movie in India is 21 July 2023. It will be available in English only, and will not be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are in the lead roles as Barbie and Ken.
The only guess would be that it will have many songs that would have taken a lot of time to be translated into local languages. Warner Bros India might also have low expectations for its success here, since it is releasing with Oppenheimer, on the same day.
But maybe when Barbie starts streaming in India, the OTT platform might add more language options. Till then, you can check the Official Trailer:
It has also gotten good early reviews as well, so it is definitely a must-watch.
Will it be in 3D or IMAX?
Barbie will not be available in 3D, IMAX, or 4DX format. The only way to watch it is in normal 2D.
There are 2 reasons behind it. First, we know that Warner Bros is now not converting most of its flicks in 3D because of its declining popularity in America. Second, IMAX Screens are reserved for Oppenheimer that has many scenes in IMAX expanded ratio.
Age Rating?
Barbie has got a UA certificate in India. This means there is no age restriction to watch in theaters. It also got a PG-13 age rating in the USA. There are only some suggestive references but not any explicit scenes.
About The Movie
A real Hollywood Barbie has been in development for more than 15 years. Once comedian Amy Schumer and actress Anne Hathaway were also attached to the project.
But then, Warner Bros got the rights and Margot Robbie was made their barbie, who is also the Harley Quinn in their DC universe.
Acclaimed director Great Gerwig got hired to direct it, who has made good films like Lady Bird and Little Women before.
She then added a lot of big names in the cast list, with Robbie and Gosling. You will also see America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Will Ferrell, Dua Lipa and John Cena. Also, Helen Mirren is narrating the story.
They also made a special music album for this flick that includes songs by Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Khalid, Dua Lipa, Nick Minaj & Ice Spice. But this is not just all fun and songs, early reactions also mentioned a deep message in an emotional story.
The tickets opened in India on 15 July. This is a great opportunity to a double feature of Oppenheimer and Barbie. Overall, the hype is on a next-level for both.
