The Paper, The Office Spin-off: When & Where to Watch in India

Last updated on 3 September 2025.

The Office is my favourite American sitcom, so an official spin-off is definitely going to be on my watchlist. Find out how to watch The Paper show in India.

The Paper release in India updated time

The Paper will be streaming on JioHotstar. All episodes will be released in India on 5 September 2025.

Note that there are 10 episodes in the show, and all of them will be dropping on the first day.

The exact release time will be 12:30 PM, but I don’t think anyone really is afraid of watching the show instantly since there is nothing to spoil here.

Also, the show is not getting dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, or Telugu for Indian fans. I don’t think it is required since the original show was also not dubbed ever, and it’s hard to translate comedy into other languages too easily.

The Paper follows the same mockumentary style from The Office, now with a new cast and a new company. Instead of Dunder Mifflin, we will visit Toledo Truth-Teller, a dying midwestern newspaper. We will have new employees and new shenanigans.

The trailer promises the same weird comedy combined with heartfelt awkwardness. While it feels in the same universe, the show will have its own unique storylines:

The thought behind [The Paper] is that the same crew is excited to tell a new story — and that works for us, because we’re like that crew. It makes sense that we’re not repeating characters and story elements, because the crew would be like, ‘Eh, we did that in the other documentary!‘”

– Greg Daneils, co-creator of The Paper

How is this show connected to The Office?

The Paper is an official spin-off of The Office because the same production crew that documented Dunder Mifflin will now record the events at this new company.

While this is not a big connection, it at least tells us that the mockumentary structure will be here.

However, the biggest connective tissue is the return of Oscar Martinez. Yeah, the same Oscar from The Office. We don’t know how long he will stay in the show. Is it just a guest appearance or a full supporting role? But we know he is here and knows the production crew that is shooting in this new “office”.

This can also mean that there might be more cameos from the original series. Maybe a cameo by Kevin, since he is also an accountant and was fired at the end of The Office. Maybe Creed? Or something like Dwight visiting.

If the spin-off becomes a success, this can open doors for cameos in future seasons for sure. Maybe more spin-offs of The Office that were ones cancelled. Who knows!

More about the show

The best thing to know about the spin-off is that this is not another money-minded idea from the Hollywood Studios. The idea for The Paper came from Greg Daniels, who adapted the BBC’s The Office for the US viewers. That gave us the highly acclaimed The Office.

So, the actual crew behind the camera knows what they are doing. That’s why Peacock instantly gave it a thumbs up. Peacock’s content in India is licensed to Jio, so it’s coming to JioHotstar.

The main cast includes Domhall Gleeson as Ned Thompson, the new editor-in-chief of the newspaper company, and Sabrina Impacciatore as Esmeralda Grand.

Overall, if you liked the dry humour and meta-jokes of The Office, you can give it a try. Watch one or two episodes, and then you will find out where this is resonating with you or not.

Takeaways

Now you know about when and where to watch The Paper show in India.

I am not expecting too much from it, nor for it to be as great as The Office was. Even the original series really became popular from the 2nd season. I just want a good comedy show that captures my attention and brings some interesting characters. At least, something I want to follow along with.

And if you don’t know who I am? I am Ranish Chauhan a.k.a. Fulmino Fan, and I love Marvel & DC Superheroes and Sci-Fi movies. You can also check my YouTube channel for amazing videos in Hindi.
