Many Hollywood movies now promote themselves as “Filmed for IMAX” but most of the time it is not true. So, today I will clarify whether Captain America Brave New World is worth watching on the bigger but costlier IMAX screen or not.
Is Captain America 4 Filmed for IMAX?
Yes, Captain America Brave New World is Filmed for IMAX. But there is a catch!
Some moviegoers get confused by the term “Filmed for IMAX” as they start thinking that it is made with the 70mm cameras used for movies like Interstellar or Oppenheimer. This is not true.
“Filmed for IMAX” means that the movie was shot with digital cameras certified by the company under their new program.
So, a movie shot with a 70mm film camera is called “Shot with IMAX” while movies made with IMAX-certified digital cameras are called “Filmed for IMAX”. I found this article to understand the difference between them.
But that doesn’t mean it is false marketing.
Captain America Brave New World has about 30 minutes of IMAX scenes in the expanded 1.90:1 aspect ratio. Such scenes will cover the screen from top to bottom, giving you a more immersive experience.

This happens with 99% of films shown in IMAX, including previous Marvel flicks like Avengers Infinity War or Endgame.

Best Format to Watch Captain America Brave New World
Even with just 30 minutes of such IMAX footage, I will still choose IMAX as the best format to watch Captain America Brave New World.
My main reason is the brighter and more saturated video quality of the IMAX projectors and their amazing sound system. This is more true if you are thinking about the 3D option.
In normal 3D, the brightness of the screen decreases when you see through the glasses. However, since IMAX screens are brighter than normal theatres, this loss of brightness will not be so bad.
Now that is my first choice and I will watch Cap 4 in IMAX 3D!
If you can find IMAX theatres with Laser projectors, that is even better.
But if this format is not available in your city or you don’t want to pay more for it, then go for Dolby. I would recommend finding a good 4K Dolby Theatre near you.
4DX is also a Good Format for Cap 4
Some other cool formats that you may want to try are 4DX and ScreenX. 4DX offers practical effects like motion-enabled seats, water splashes, light flashes and smoke inside the theatre to enhance your experience.
Captain America Brave New World has a good action setpiece set above the ocean with the main hero playing and destroying planes in the sky. So, there will be a lot of moving seats and splashes of water in 4DX. This can be a good format to enjoy this film!
Then, there is ScreenX. These theatres feature three screens (one on your left and one on your right), providing a 270-degree projection. However, I doubt this will enhance the film considerably.

Captain America: Brave New World is the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, continuing the narratives of the earlier Captain America series and the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier television show.
As we saw at the end of Avengers Endgame, Steve Rogers gave his shield to Sam Wilson to continue his legacy. In the show, Sam was a little hesitant to carry the title but ultimately decided to be the new Captain America.
In this film, he has to fight a new enemy and adjust to this “new world” where countries are fighting over the newly discovered Adamantium metal. He also has to go one-on-one with President Thunder Ross, who also turns into the Red Hulk.
Captain America Brave New World will be released on 14 February 2025 in the USA and India. Happy Red Valentine!
