05 Formats to Watch Avatar 2 in Theatres

The reviews for Avatar The Way of Water clearly tell us that it is a Visual Masterpiece with the best VFX shots till now.

So, when Avatar 2 releases on 16 December 2022, it is good to first find out what is the best screen type for such a mega movie. Find out 5 best formats to go on the Pandora adventure:

01) IMAX

IMAX is the best format to watch Avatar The Way of Water. This is because it will have the expanded 1.90:1 aspect ratio for the entire runtime. IMAX also offers a bigger screen and amazing video and audio quality.

Here is the official IMAX trailer:

It is shot on specially designed Sony Venice 3D cameras, which are technically IMAX-certified, so they offer one of the best immersive experiences in today’s time. So, we recommend you prefer IMAX 3D over 2D.

02) 3D

If you can’t go for an IMAX because it is not available in your city or it is very expensive, the next option should be in 3D. We all know that Avatar (2009) started the 3D revolution, and then we saw many movies in that format.

But most of them were originally shot in 2D and then converted to 3D later in post-production. This is not the best way to do this.

But Director James Cameron made Avatar The Way of Water directly in 3D, so you will have no complaints about wearing those glasses this time.

Fun Fact: Once James Cameron wanted to use the “glasses-free 3D” technology but that didn’t work out.

03) Dolby

Dolby is always the most reliable theatre format for any movie. They usually have awesome audio quality, slightly greater projectors, and are located in most locations around the world. So, you will definitely have a pleasant time in Dolby. They offer 3D showings as well.

Dolby tickets are normally cheaper than IMAX and you can get opening weekend seats easily. There is an advanced Dolby VISION presentation for Avatar 2, so you can check that out too.

04) 4DX

4DX is currently quite popular among the younger audience for such types of CGI-heavy movies. Not only 4DX has 3D screens, but these theatres also enhance your experience will effect like smoke, scent, rain, wind, and vibrations with moving seats.

But since this sequel is 3 hours and 12 minutes long, this type of roller-coaster viewing might become distracting for you. So if you can bear it, 4DX is for you.

05) ScreenX

Avatar The Way of Water is also been formatted in ScreenX. This cinema type has 2 additional screens on your left and right, to completely get you engaged in the movie. This offers 270-degree panoramic angles.

But since there is no 3D or larger footage, it is at the bottom of our recommended list.

And don’t forget that this movie has a higher frame rate (48fps) than normal films (24fps) for some battle scenes, so you are in for a fabulous treat in the cinema. This makes the footage more realistic and in-depth.

So now you know about the best format to watch Avatar The Way of Water including IMAX, 3D, 4DX, and more. Go for the one that works for you!
