Get Ready, Superhero Fans! DC is back, now with a brand new universe. Find out when and where to watch the Superman movie in India.
Superman release date in India
James Gunn’s Superman lands in Indian theatres on 11 July 2025, along with its global release.
Superman is the first film in the new DC universe, now produced by the exclusive DC Studios. It was announced as the first major project in the ‘Gods and Monsters’ saga by James Gunn, who is also the writer and director for this one.
It is a completely fresh take on the Man of Steel, with a younger cast. David Corenswet is choosen to be the next Kal-El/Superman, along with Nicholas Hoult/Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
There will also be more heroes and metahumans in it, including Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mr Terrific, Engineer, Metamorpho and Ultraman. And don’t forget, we are getting Superdog Krypto for the first time on the big screen.
Warner Bros India also confirmed it will have both IMAX 2D and 3D shows. I like 3D, but since Superman was shot entirely for IMAX aspect ratio, it deserves to be seen once in IMAX 2D with their 4K laser projectors.
But if your city doesn’t have IMAX, there are many premium alternatives like 4DX, ScreenX or Dolby.
In USA, they are hosting fan-first screenings 3 days early (on 8 July), in partnership with Amazon Prime Video. That is not the case for India, but there is something similar.
Warner Bros India is organising a fan contest for Superman’s India premiere (in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru), which is set to take place a day before the Friday release date.
Superman will also be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Watch the official trailer here:

Superman on OTT: When and Where?
Since Superman is officially produced by Warner Bros, it will drop on HBO MAX. However, HBO and WB’s content is licensed to Reliance-backed Jio in our country.
Superman will be streaming on JioHotstar in India. The official digital premiere date has not yet been announced.

My best prediction on when it will come to OTT is October or November. I believe they will have a longer theatrical window for this one. Wait for at least 2 to 3 months.

Superman Promotion in Mumbai
Warner Bros knows this movie has huge potential, and they are spending a lot on marketing it. Making it more special for Indian fans, they promoted the film, the Bandra-Worli Sea-Link in Mumbai.

They also teamed up with JBL, rolling out an immersive experiential zone across 2,000+ stores in the country and even BGMI.
In an interview with HT City, Gunn mentioned he wants an Indian actor in his universe. While this sounds like something he would say just to be nice, I think there is a good chance he might happen someday.
Gunn has said that he wants to work with artists from different countries to bring more diversity and creative ideas. Don’t rule this out.
There was als controversy that happened around Superman being censored by Indian censor board.

After the downfall of the DC Extended Universe, Warner Bros decided to start from scratch. Even though they “relaunched” Henry Cavill as Superman in 2022’s Black Adam, the response was not that great. The decision was ultimately made to have a new beginning.
They hired James Gunn and Peter Safran as the heads of the new DC Studios, who will oversee all things DC. Then, in 2023, Gunn announced his master plan, starting with Superman, which he was already writing at that time.
After some more thoughts, he decided to direct it himself and set the tone of the new franchise.
James Gunn is one of the biggest faces in the comic-book movies fandom. He came to the limelight with the success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a top-tier superhero film with C-list characters. He continued to work with Marvel for 2 more installments in this series.
In between some controversies, he got hired by DC too, and made one of the best films in their catalogue, The Suicide Squad (2021).
While not a commercial hit, it showed how great a director he is. Gunn went on to make its spin-off, Peacemaker (also a good show), and got the Superman gig after that.
This a big task for him, as not only he has make a good movie, he also has to revive the DC brand, which is not having good time at box-office. HOPEfully, we are up for a big treat.
At last, here is the official synopsis for the film: “When Superman gets drawn into conflicts at home and abroad, his actions are questioned, allowing tech billionaire Lex Luthor to get the Man of Steel out of the way for good. Will intrepid reporter Lois Lane and Superman’s four-legged companion, Krypto, be able to help him before it’s too late?”.

This is my most anticipated movie for 2025. I loved James Gunn’s style, and the trailers promise a fun story, something missing from the darker DCEU. This is also the beginning of a new universe, where Gunn has put creative people first. Let’s see how this strategy works out for the new DC Studios.
