5 Eternals Indian Connections
Eternals have 5 interesting Indian connections. This includes the 1st Indian actor in MCU, the Gupta empire, Indian wedding and Bollywood scene.
Let’s look at them one by one:
1) Harish Patel is the first Indian Actor in MCU
Harish Patel has become the first Indian actor in the MCU franchise. He played the role of Karun in Eternals. Karun is Kingo’s valet or manager.
He spoke in Hindi many times during the movie as well. His Hindi dialogues are also loved by many Indian fans.
Harish has worked in many Bollywood movies in the 80-90s in minor supporting roles. Then he went to work in Hollywood movies and shows. Many fans and critics praised his character in the film and the humour he added with Kumail Nanjiani.
2) Gupta Empire in Eternals
Eternals also includes some flashback scenes including one that includes ancient India. One of the most notable is the great Gupta Empire.
This Indian culture scene in Eternals is set in 400 AD. These superheroes have 7,000 years of history on earth and they once also travelled to India, according to the movie’s story.
A little bit about this dynasty: The Gupta empire. It ruled the northern Indian subcontinent from the 4th to the 6th century AD.
It was founded by King Sri Gupta, and followed by famous rulers like Chandragupta, Samudragupta and Vikramaditya. It is also considered the “Golden age” of Indian history.
So, Is Eternals set in India? While the scene is shot in London’s Pinewood Studios, the scene is definitely showcasing Indian culture. The other historical places shown in the movie are Mesopotamia, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and the Aztec civilization.
3) Indian Wedding Scene in Eternals
This flashback scene from the Gupta empire includes one important scene: The Indian Wedding scene of Eternals.
Sersi and Ikaris who are the lead characters in the cast are wed in the Indian Hindu style. This scene is between Gemma Chan and Richard Madden. Gemma wore a Saree and Richard wore a Sherwani here.
All the Eternals went to India for this specific wedding ceremony in a cultural way, after Ikaris confessed his love for Sersi. Other characters are also seen in Indian dresses which look very beautiful.

Popular International stars like Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek and Don Lee wore traditional Indian clothes during this wedding.

4) Bollywood Scene
The movie also has a big Bollywood dance sequence in it. One of the Eternals, Kingo is a Bollywood superstar in the film. He is seen performing a dance scene in it with actress Nikkita Chadha portraying a Bollywood actress in Eternals. The song is sung by Celina Sharma.
While the dance scene was not loved by some fans, we should know that the character of Kingo is part of the movie mainly for Comedy. So, the whole character is shown in an over-the-top manner.
Also, the actor Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo) was not well prepared for this dance scene.
The costumes in this scene are designed by Saran Kohli. He got a direct call from Marvel Studios for designing costumes for the 52 background dancers.
They also took a dig at nepotism by explaining how he acted for about a century in Bollywood without ageing. Kingo is also obsessed with stardom.
5) SPOILER: Gilgamesh’s Funeral
One of the characters Gilgamesh’s died fighting the deviants on Druig’s base. His funeral was according to the Indian rituals.
Harish Patel’s Karun was heard chanting some Sanskrit mantras. The body was cremated and the ashes are scattered in a nearby river.
Eternals was released in India on 05 November, a day after Diwali. It is the 26th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Movie theatres are also allowed to operate with 100% seat capacity in some states. There is also a big Marvel movies lineup for the next year 2022 in India.
