Godzilla Minus Zero is one of the most anticipated movies of 2026, following the huge success of Minus One. But its release in India is in doubt, and here’s the latest update we have on it, including competition with Ramayana and sharing IMAX screens.
Godzilla Minus Zero Release Guide for Indian Fans
Here are answers to all your questions:
1) Is Godzilla Minus Zero coming to India?
The Japanese monster thriller is distributed by PVR INOX Pictures in India, and they have confirmed the release window for the country.
Godzilla Minus Zero will release in India this November. The exact date is yet to be announced, but it will be delayed and will not premiere on November 6 alongside its global release.
I expect it to premiere on 20 or 27 November, to give at least a couple of weeks to not clash with Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana.
Here’s PVR INOX Pictures’ confirmation post on Instagram:
The good news is that the delay isn’t as long as some fans feared, and the movie is still getting a theatrical release. That’s a relief, especially since its predecessor, Godzilla Minus One, never made it to big screens in India.
The biggest hurdle for Minus Zero is Ramayana Part 1, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. Both Minus Zero and Ramayana are releasing on the same day in the USA on 6 November, so there is a huge competition out there globally.

However, the Indian market is a different story. Ramayana has the potential to earn ₹1,000 crore at the box office domestically, while Minus Zero might struggle to cross ₹50 crore at best. So, distributors will want more screens for Ramayana.
Also, Ramayana Part 1 has been filmed for IMAX and is being heavily promoted around the format. Godzilla Minus Zero is also targeting the same premium screens, and a small audience in India interested in watching it will also likely prefer to experience it in IMAX.
This puts the film in a difficult position, as it will have to compete directly with Ramayana for limited IMAX slots. S, t secure a decent number of IMAX shows, Minus Zero’s release had to be postponed.
Previously, PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani had said that Godzilla Minus Zero would release in India in the same week as Ramayana Part 1, but that no longer appears to be the case.
IMAX screens have been reserved exclusively for Ramayana Part 1 during its first week. Tickets are already booked. This makes a delay in Godzilla Minus One’s Indian release obvious.
2) In which languages?
Godzilla Minus One will be available in the original Japanese language with English subtitles in India.
This has been confirmed by PVR Picutres’ trailer on their YouTube:
With the delay and less demand, it is highly unlikely that there will be dubbing in Hindi, Tamil, or Telugu, at least for the theatrical release.
I will still to wait for the official announcement by PVR INOX Pictures in the coming days.
If you prefer watching the movie in a local language, you can wait for its OTT release.
Godzilla Minus One is available on Netflix in India with Hindi and Tamil dubbing, so when Minus Zero eventually arrives on streaming, you may have more language options to choose from.
3) When and where will Godzilla Minus Zero stream in India?
The film is receiving a theatrical release first and will eventually stream based on a local distribution agreement.
Its predecessor, Godzilla Minus One, is streaming on Netflix in India, so Minus Zero might also drop on the same OTT platform.
Also, Minus One took around 6 months to arrive on streaming after its release, so you can expect a similar theatrical window for Minus Zero.
4) Is it part of a franchise?
Godzilla Minus Zero is a direct sequel to Godzilla Minus One, the 2023 Japanese film directed by Takashi Yamazaki.
The sequel continues the story two years after the events of the previous movie. It follows the aftermath of Godzilla’s attack on post-war Japan and brings back important characters from the earlier film.
Also, note that this ‘Godzilla Minus’ film series is produced by Toho are separate from the Hollywood MonsterVerse films, which include Godzilla vs. Kong, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
5) Is Godzilla Minus Zero Filmed for IMAX?
Yes. Godzilla Minus Zero is the first Japanese production to be filmed for IMAX. It includes 75 minutes of expanded 1.43:1 aspect ratio footage designed to take advantage of the larger IMAX screen.
Selected sequences use an expanded image that reveals more of the picture vertically, making the monster’s scale and destruction more immersive.
Here’s the aspect ratio guide:

We have to remember that Godzilla Minus One won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and introduced a fresh generation of viewers to the terrifying power of the famous Japanese monster. So, it deserves to be seen in the best way possible.
However, Indian audiences won’t be able to experience the full 1.43:1 aspect ratio, as IMAX screens in India are 1.90:1 in size. Still, watching the film in IMAX will offer a larger image and more on-screen detail than standard screens.
The other premium formats where you might be able to watch it are EPIQ, Dolby Cinema ICE, HDR by BARCO, and 4DX. There is no 3D conversion.
6) What is the story for this film?
Godzilla Minus Zero continues the story of a Japan struggling to recover from the destruction caused by war and Godzilla.
The official synopsis explains that two years have passed since the previous film’s events. Japan has been trying to rebuild its cities and restore everyday life after suffering enormous losses.
“War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life. Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant.”
The story once again places human survival at the centre of the monster spectacle. Godzilla is a force of destruction, but the people affected by his attacks remain a major part of the narrative.
Director Takashi Yamazaki returns as the film’s director, screenwriter, and visual effects lead. Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Koichi Shikishima, while Minami Hamabe returns as Noriko Shikishima.
7) Are any of the scenes censored?
Godzilla Minus Zero has been rated R in the USA for “some violent content/bloody images.” The previous film got PG-13, so that means this one is more gruesome and for mature audiences only.
So, I believe Godzilla Minus Zero will most likely receive an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC, restricting theatrical admission to adults aged 18 and above.
I don’t expect the Indian release to feature any significant cuts or censored scenes, but nothing can be said for certain until the CBFC officially certifies the film. They censored DC’s Clayface for “violent” shots, so that could also happen here.
8) Is there a post-credits scene?
Godzilla Minus Zero does not feature a post-credits scene.
Similar to Minus One, the film lets its main narrative and ending sit on their own without setting up a mandatory teaser or cliffhanger scene for a future installment.
9) What is Godzilla Minus Zero’s box office in India?
Godzilla Minus Zero is not yet released, so the box office collection and even ticket bookings have not started. I will update when official numbers start coming up.
