Each year, the Academy gives us some of the best movies made in Cinema and this year is no Different. But finding these Oscar-nominated films in India is not so easy. So, here is a simple guide for you cinema lovers!
10 Oscar-Nominated Film Streaming in India 2025
The 97th Academy Awards happened on 2 March 2025 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. With the new tradition, there were a total of 10 films nominated for the Best Picture category.
Here’s where to watch them:
1) Dune Part 2 (Best VFX)
For me, this is the best movie of 2024, which is made for both mass and class audiences. It is a sequel to Dune Part 1 and continues the story of Paul Atreides, who wants to take revenge against his enemies in a war set in a Sci-Fi world, featuring some amazing Visual Effects.
Dune Part 2 is streaming on JioHotstar in India. Also, the best part is that it is available in 7 languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Kannada.
2) The Substance (Best Makeup)
If you like weird movies, this is the perfect film for you. This Body-Horror feature is not scary, it is actually pretty “gross” to watch. There are scenes in it that I guarantee, you will never forget in your lifetime. That’s why it won the Best Makeup & Hairstyling Award at the Oscars.
The Substance is streaming on MUBI in India. This streaming platform offers a 7-day trial and is also available on Amazon Prime Video as a Channel to subscribe.
The story follows a middle-aged celebrity who got a serum that will make her younger.
3) Anora (Best Movie)
Anora won Best Picture at the 97th Academy Awards, along with 4 more for Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing. Anora is the story of a young stripper who gets married to a wealthy man and chaos ensues.
Anora will be streaming on JioHotstar in India from 17 March 2025.
Actress Mikey Madison gave the Oscar-worthy performance of her lifetime.
4) The Brutalist (Best Actor)
The Brutalist won 3 Oscars including Adrien Brody for Best Actor. The Brutalist showcase the journey of a Hungarian-Jewish architect who survives the Holocaust and immigrates to the United States, where he strives to achieve the American Dream.
The Brutalist is currently not streaming anywhere in India.
5) Nickel Boys
Nickel Boys follows a Black teenager in 1960s Florida, who is unjustly sent to the abusive Nickel Academy reform school.
Nickel Boys is streaming on Amazon Prime Video in India.
6) Emilia Pérez
The most controversial Oscars-nominated movie in recent times is Emilia Perez. I didn’t like the movie because the story was weak and the musical genre was not a good fit. However, it’s exploration of self-identity, and transformation was well done.
Emilia Perez is streaming on MUBI in India.
7) I’m Still Here (Best International Film)
I’m Still Here is a Brazilian political drama directed by Walter Salles. The film portrays Eunice Paiva’s relentless search for her husband, Rubens Paiva, a former congressman who disappeared during Brazil’s 1971 military dictatorship.
I’m Still Here is currently not available on OTT anywhere in the world. But what I know is that Sony Pictures is distributing it.
8) Wicked
Wicked won 2 Oscars for Best Production Design and Costume Design. The musical is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, following the story of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
Wicked will be streaming on JioHotstar in India from 22 March 2025.
9) A Complete Unkown
Another big movie of Timothée Chalamet this year (after Dune Part 2) was A Complete Unkown. It is a biography of legendary musician Bob Dylan, who became a pivotal figure in the folk music scene of the USA.
A Complete Unkown is distributed by Searchlight Pictures, so it will come for streaming on JioHotstar soon.
10) Conclave (Best Adapted Screenplay)
Last but not least is my 2nd favourite Oscar film of the year: The Conclave. The story follows the election process of the church to choose the next Pope. This mystery thriller has one of the best final twists I have seen in my life.
There is no confirmation on where it will stream in India. However, since Peacock got its rights in the US, there is a good chance it might land on JioHotstar.
