Thunderbolts to release One Day Early in India
Thunderbolts is my most anticipated Marvel movie and it felt good when they announced that it will come one day early here.
Marvel’s Thunderbolts movie will be released in India on 1 May 2025. In the USA, it will come out on Friday as usual (2 May), but Marvel India has decided to premiere it a day in advance, on a Thursday (1 May).
They have done early releases in India before for many Marvel films, to take advantage of a longer weekend and more box-office collection. Also, May 1st is a public holiday in Maharashtra, which opens up possibilities for more ticket sales in the state. Mumbai is the biggest box-office region in India.
But note that there will be some countries where it will be released on 30 April (Wednesday) as well. So, keep yourself safe from spoilers, especially on any social media sites and YouTube.
There is a lot riding on this film for the future of MCU. They really need a big success after the disappointed reception of their last entry, Captain America Brave New World.
The good news is that early reviews have been great. Both critics and fans praising the action scenes, emotional plots, comedy and brilliant performances by Florence Pugh & Lewis Pullman.
Thunderbolts brings together some of MCU’s B-level superheroes including Winter Soldier and Yelena Belova, in a fight against one of the most powerful characters from the Marvel comics known as Sentry.
Don’t forget that Thunderbolts is also Filmed for IMAX, with many action sequences shot in the expanded aspect ratio. I will experience it in IMAX 3D for sure. I am also intrigued about the meaning of * (asterisk) in the title.
Will it be dubbed in regional languages?
Like many of their other films, Thunderbolts will be available in many languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Here is the official Hindi trailer:
Dubbed versions in Kannada and Malayalam will not be there, at least for the theatrical release. You might have to wait for the OTT premier for that.
When and where will be Thunderbolts streaming?
Thunderbolts will be streaming on JioHotstar in India. The official digital premiere date is yet to be announced.
Expect more dubbed versions including in Gujarati and Marathi, when it drops on JioHotstar. However, nothing is officially confirmed as of yet. I will update this article if anything changes.
Marvel usually maintains a 45 to 90-day theatrical window, so expect it to be around sometime between June to August.
JioHotstar (previously Disney+ Hotstar) is the home to all Disney-owned content, which includes Marvel. All the previous MCU films and shows are already on their OTT platform. There will be some titles that will be not there if they are not directly owned by Marvel Studios, like the Spider-man films.

More about the Movie
Thunderbolts* is the 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is directed by Jake Schreier. It is long rumored that such a project is at development at Marvel Studios. At one time, James Gunn was even behind it.
However, it was officially announced at D23 in 2022. It was initially set for a 2024 release and got delayed many times, until the May 1st date was confirmed.
The final runtime stands at 2 hours and 7 minutes including two post-credits scenes. The second one is hailed as a must-watch.
Finally, here is the official synopsis for the film (via marvel.com): “Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes: Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late.”
